Weapon Retrieved at East Chicago Lighthouse Charter School

During morning arrival, the team of East Chicago Lighthouse Charter School (ECLCS) was made aware of a weapon in possession by a scholar who attends this campus. Following our standard protocols, the ECLCS leadership team moved into swift action to ensure the safety of all staff and scholars. The school building was placed on a soft lockdown and the scholar in question was detained and searched. A weapon was found and secured without incident. The East Chicago Police department was called and arrived on scene immediately. With the support of the East Chicago Police officers, a thorough investigation was conducted. At no point was there a threat or any harm brought to any member of the ECLCS community during this time. Upon completion of the investigation, the building was taken off lockdown and resumed classes and activities.

The safety of our ECLCS community is of the utmost importance to our team. The training of our team and the prompt and thorough response of the East Chicago Police department allowed for a successful resolution to this matter. We will continue to be diligent in our effort to practice our safety measures and our school and district  administration will examine this situation with the hopes of enhancing our protocols in the future.
