A Message from our Principal

Welcome to East Chicago Lighthouse!

meeting each student at their individual level of need and lighting the way so they can lead their lives with purpose and confidence.

Every scholar who walks through the doors at East Chicago brings unique strengths, dreams, and potential. Our responsibility and our privilege is to meet them exactly where they are and to guide them forward with encouragement, high expectations, and unwavering belief in their ability to succeed. We strive to create an environment where learning is not only rigorous, but also joyful, nurturing, and transformative.

I am profoundly grateful, in my 31st year in education, for the opportunity to serve alongside such a dedicated and passionate team of educators, staff, and families. Together, we are more than just a school. We are a community united in our commitment to shaping futures, igniting curiosity, and inspiring lifelong learning.

As we move forward, let us continue to motivate, to guide, and to light the path for our scholars. In doing so, we empower them to lead with confidence, compassion, and resilience. Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and your shared belief in the extraordinary potential of every child we serve.

With appreciation and hope,

April Shaw

Find Your Place in the Pride.

Every great pride begins with a sense of belonging. From our youngest cubs taking their first steps in learning to our older scholars discovering their independence, we grow, learn, and celebrate each milestone together. Every scholar adds something unique to our pride, and every journey helps shape the story we share.
